BLACKPINK’s Jennie signs with Columbia Records, teases new music

Her first single since 'You & Me' is due out next month

BLACKPINK‘s Jennie has signed a new partnership with Columbia Records and is teasing the release of new solo music in the near future.

BLACKPINK’s Jennie officially announced her signing with the record label earlier today (September 9), in partnership with her own company, Odd Atelier. Columbia Records is a subsidiary under Sony Music Entertainment, where she joins the likes of Beyoncé, Adele, Harry Styles and more.

As part of the newly minted partnership, Jennie is set to release new music as a soloist as early as this October. The forthcoming single will mark her first solo project since she released ‘You & Me’ in October 2023.

However, she has since been collaborating with artists on music in the time since, including Brockhampton’s Matt Champion on ‘Slow Motion’ in March and Zico on ‘SPOT!’ in April this year. The BLACKPINK star also notably teased an unreleased song on TikTok in June as part of her endorsement of the latest Beats by Dre earphones.

Jennie’s upcoming release under Columbia Records will also make her the second BLACKPINK member to drop new solo music since the quartet opted not to re-sign with YG Entertainment in favour of independent solo ventures. Bandmate Lisa, who also launched her own company LLOUD, has since released two new solo singles: ‘Rockstar’ in June and ‘New Woman’ featuring Rosalía in August.

In other BLACKPINK news, Lisa was recently confirmed as a performer for the upcoming 2024 VMAs, slated to take place on September 11. The Thai musician is slated to perform alongside the likes of Halsey, Lenny Kravitz, Sabrina CarpenterCamila Cabello, Chappell RoanGloRilla and Rauw Alejandr, many of whom are up for awards at the ceremony this year.
